MISSION:
It is the mission of Bluegrass
Professional School of Massage Therapy to provide comprehensive, on-going
professional training in therapeutic massage as a career. We are
helping students understand the principles and relationships in therapeutic
massage. By promoting the highest educational and professional
standards; we strive to further the public's respect and acceptance of
therapeutic massage.
BPM, INC's History:
Since 1988, Bluegrass
Professional Massage, Inc. has been training students in the art and science
of therapeutic massage, preparing them to become part of the allied health
care professionals. Bluegrass Professional School of Massage Therapy
is Approved and Licensed by the Kentucky State Board for Proprietary
Education. Bluegrass Professional School of Massage Therapy's
current 600-hour program is accepted by the
National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork
and allows you to sit for the NCBTMB's certification test. You will
need National Certification before you can obtain your license to practice
massage therapy from the state of Kentucky.
We are also members of Associated Bodywork and Massage Professionals (ABMP),
which allows you to join their organization as a student member, then as a
professional member after graduation and we are listed in the directories of
massage schools, of all the massage organizations.
ADMISSIONS REQUIREMENT:
Individuals applying to
Bluegrass Professional School of Massage Therapy must:

Be age 18 years old when
class starts & have a High School Diploma, GED, or the legal equivalent.

Satisfy all requirements
described in the Bluegrass Professional School of Massage Therapy
application, (read back of the application for requirements)

Be in good physical and
emotional health in order to complete all course work without compromising
technical skills, as well as to receive work from other students.
Limitations might include: Pregnancy; debilitating acute or chronic
pain; tuberculosis; movement injuries; a debilitating emotional state.

Accept the policies and
procedures as set forth by Bluegrass Professional School of Massage
Therapy.

Non-USA Residents must have
proper credentials, and or Visa's, etc.
APPLICATION / ADMISSIONS
PROCEDURES:
-
Submit a completed
application form and all required documentation.
Enclose a check in the amount of $60 payable to BPSMT
(application fee is non-refundable, unless classes are full and no
positions are open).

Upon receipt of your
application, the Board of Directors will contact you to arrange an
interview.
-
After the interview,
applications are reviewed and the decision to accept or deny the
application is made. Applicants are notified in person at time of
the interview or in writing or by phone, of their status.

Within three (3) days
of the interview, if you choose payment options #2 or #3,
a Deposit
of $1500.00 on the tuition is required at that time to hold your position
in the class and is non-refundable. If you chose option #1,
you must make your full tuition payment at that time. If you withdraw
from the course after the 3 day period, we will retain the $1500.00
deposit and any refunds will be determined by the refund policy given to
you at that time.

Class size is limited.
Acceptance into the program is a selection process determined by the
personal motivation and goals, maturity, physical and emotional state, and
academic and financial ability and is at the Board's sole discretion.

receive an Acceptance Packet with:

Criteria for Acceptance: Individuals applying to Bluegrass
Professional School of Massage Therapy must display a basis for: Course
work in related sciences, manual massage techniques, and communication
skills both with the Public and Co-Workers, and have no felony
convictions, past or present.

We do not accept credits from other schools, nor time
spent in another massage school. You must take the entire 600 hour
course.

TUITION
Tuition for the 6 month course must be paid in full by
the 1st day of class, unless a payment arrangement has been made.
Tuition for the 9-12 month
couses can be paid in several
different ways. The options are listed below.
The 600-hr. program's total costs will be $5400 in tuition,
plus the cost of CPR training.
*CPR training is not included in the
tuition. Textbooks are included in tuition.
You do not need a
massage table for classroom instruction. You may want to purchase one
later, but you do not need it for class and it is not included in your
tuition.
American Express, MasterCard,
Visa and Discover/Novus ®, cash & personal checks are accepted.
***There will be a 3.7% fee
($200) added to your tuition if
paying by Credit Card or Debit Card. ***
OPTION #1:
FULL
PAYMENT OPTION / 6 MONTH
COURSE:
*$5400 must be paid up front, unless you use
a credit card,
then it is $5600 ($5400.00 plus a $200.00 credit card fee)...or
The student can place $1500.00 deposit down
at time of acceptance and pay remaining $3900.00 when their class begins, if
it begins within the next month.
*** A payment plan
can be arranged for a six month course, however you must pay the
deposit of $1500.00 up front and the tuition paid will not be refunded for
any reason. A fee will be applied. The fee will depend on whether you pay
monthly or weekly. The monthly fee will be $200, making your full tuition
costs $5600.00 and your monthly payment $650.00. The weekly fee will be
$260.00, making your total tuition costs $5660.00 and your weekly payment
will be $180.00 This payment must be discussed during the interview and
agreed upon by both parties (the school and the student) in writing.
There will be no refunds and no
grace period for withdrawal under this option.
OPTION #2:
9 MONTH COURSE:
$5400.00 if paid up front....or
$5400.00 if paid in installments + application fee...as follows:

$1500.00 deposit + 37 weekly installments of $103.00 (this includes a fee of
$111.00)

$1500.00 deposit + 3 installments of $1244.00...(this includes a fee of

12 MONTH COURSE:

POLICIES REGARDING
PAYMENTS:
All policies regarding the refunds and dismissals are the same regardless
of how the tuition is paid or whether you have chosen the 6 month
or 12 month course.
A late fee of $10.00 a week will
be added to any payments that are made after their due date. ALL tuition
must be paid in full two (2) months before graduation, as well as a
passing grade, and a copy of your current CPR certification must be in
your file in order to graduate and receive your Certification and
transcripts.
600 Hour Course Outline
Anatomy and Physiology:
165 Hours
Learning Objectives:
-
Define and
explain important term's students will use in this section.
-
Define and
derive the meaning of medical terms.
-
Know why a
massage therapist should have a good understanding of anatomy,
physiology and pathology.
-
Know the 10
important body systems.
-
Name the
different planes and regions of the body.
-
Know the major
contraindications of massage.
-
Includes 40 Hours in
Pathology and 10 Hours of Pharmacology.
Basic Massage Theory and
Practice: 235 Hours
-
Student will be
taught how to do a basic massage from head to foot.
-
Different
styles and forms will be added as the students progresses.
-
Students will
learn how to put their academic knowledge of the body and
contraindications to practical use during massage.
-
Classes will
have hands on demonstrations followed by practice of those techniques by
the students on each other, Staff members, family and friends, or the
public as assigned by their instructors. Students will have to do
at least 50 hours of massage practice in the student clinic or as
assigned. See Student Clinic requirements below.

On the academic
side, students will be taught about basic equipment used in massage
applications and hydrotherapy (applications of heat and cold packs,
etc.).

Students will
learn how to do a consultation, observation, charting and when to refer
to and consult a physician's expertise.

Students will
be required to do a Public Service Project, and/or other projects
relating to massage and/or anatomy, as assigned by their instructor(s).
Statutes, Rules, Ethics
and Business Practices: 200 Hours
-
10 Hours are
spent on Ethics, Defining "professional ethics", and explaining how
practicing good ethics builds a successful practice.

10 hours are
spent on Statutes, Rules and History of Massage. The student will learn
how massage came to its present position in society. How statutes
and rules vary from State to State as well as from county to county.

100 hours are
spent on Business Practices. The student will learn the different
types of ownership; the physical layout of a beginning operation;
various permits and licenses and where to obtain them; know the
importance of the business location and a professional name to the
success of a personal service business. Insurance's forms, and
other office management skills are also included. Advertising
Target groups are covered, as well as Business Plans, Professional
Liability Insurance, etc.
Student Clinic: (hours are included
in Theory and Practice)

All students will be
required to do 50 practical hours, in the student clinic or under
supervision of a Medical Professional (i.e.) Chiropractor, Physical
Therapist).

When and where this
requirement will be performed will be determined by the Program
Director.
